PANGKALPINANG, PERKARANEWS.COM — Coral garden atau kebun terumbu karang buatan menjadi salah satu inovasi penting dalam upaya menjaga dan memulihkan ekosistem laut dan pesisir. Untuk itu, PT TIMAH Tbk secara berkelanjutan meneggelamkan coral garden di wilayah operasional Perusahaan.
Sepanjang tahun 2025, PT TIMAH Tbk telah melepaskan 45 unit coral garden di Pulau Putri dan Perairan Tuing, Kabupaten Bangka sebagai bagian dari program corporate social responsibility (CSR) dan pengelolaan lingkungan berkelanjutan.
Program coral garden merupakan struktur buatan yang ditempatkan di dasar laut untuk mendukung pertumbuhan terumbu karang dan menjadi habitat baru bagi berbagai biota laut.
Inisiatif ini menjadi bagian dari upaya PT TIMAH Tbk untuk menjaga keseimbangan ekosistem laut sekaligus memanfaatkan potensi sosial ekonomi bagi masyarakat sekitar wilayah operasional perusahaan.
Struktur coral garden dirancang untuk meningkatkan keanekaragaman hayati di bawah laut dengan menyediakan media tumbuhnya terumbu karang secara alami. Habitat baru ini menjadi tempat berlindung dan berkembang biak bagi ikan dan biota laut lainnya, sehingga populasi laut dapat terjaga dan meningkat dari waktu ke waktu.
Dengan bertambahnya terumbu karang buatan, ekosistem laut menjadi lebih stabil dan produktif, membantu proses rehabilitasi laut yang terdampak kerusakan serta memberi kontribusi positif terhadap kelestarian lingkungan.
“Penenggelaman coral garden ini merupakan bagian dari konsistensi dan komitmen perusahaan dalam mendukung kelestarian ekosistem laut dan pesisir. Melalui program ini, PT TIMAH Tbk secara konkret menunjukkan komitmen terhadap keberlanjutan lingkungan melalui program pemulihan ekosistem bawah laut yang dirancang untuk mendukung pertumbuhan kembali biota laut serta menjaga keseimbangan ekosistem secara berkelanjutan.,” kata Departement Head Corporate Communication PT TIMAH Tbk, Anggi Siahaan.
Anggi menambahkan, progam coral garden tidak hanya berorientasi pada aspek konservasi, tetapi juga memberikan manfaat nyata bagi masyarakat pesisir, khususnya nelayan, melalui peningkatan kualitas dan produktivitas sumber daya laut.
Pemasangan coral garden diharapkan memberikan dampak langsung bagi kesejahteraan nelayan. Struktur ini menarik ikan dan biota laut sehingga nelayan tidak lagi harus melaut terlalu jauh untuk mendapatkan hasil tangkapan yang memadai, sehingga bisa menghemat biaya operasional seperti bahan bakar serta mengurangi risiko selama melaut.
Selain itu, PT TIMAH Tbk juga melibatkan masyarakat lokal dalam setiap tahap program dari pembuatan, penenggelaman, hingga pemantauan sehingga membuka peluang kerja dan pemberdayaan ekonomi langsung bagi warga pesisir.
Tidak hanya berdampak pada ekologi dan ekonomi nelayan, coral garden juga menjadi daya tarik wisata baru terutama untuk aktivitas snorkeling dan diving. Spot-spot taman karang buatan yang telah berkembang menjadi habitat alami yang bisa dimanafaatkan wisatawan untuk menikmati keindahan bawah laut dan berinteraksi langsung dengan kehidupan biota laut.
Seperti yang disampaikan satu nelayan di Penyusuk, Ramadan mengatakan mereka telah merasakan langsung manfaat coral garden yang ditenggelamkan PT TIMAH Tbk. Dirinya bisa melaut lebih dekat dan hasil tangkapannya semakin meningkat.
“Yang paling dirasakan itu kita tidak perlu jauh-jauh lagi melaut, karena coral garden ini ditenggelamkan hanya sekitar 1 mil dari laut. Ikan-ikannya juga banyak seperti kakap merah. Kita juga jadi menghemat biaya BBM,” katanya beberapa waktu lalu.
Sebagai salah satu pelaku wisata, Menurut Rama kehadiran coral garden juga bisa membantu dirinya untuk membawa wisatawan untuk menemukan spot-spot bagus saat snorkling.
“Saya biasanya juga bawa tamu ke Pulau Putri dari Pantai Penyusuk ini, dengan ada spot coral garden kita jadi bisa menunjukkan ke wisatawan spot mana yang bagus untuk mereka snorkling, jadi bisa lihat ikan-ikan. Semoga nanti program ini bisa berlanjut sehingga semakin banyak titik coral gardennya,” harapnya.
Upaya PT TIMAH Tbk dengan menenggelamkan coral garden ini sejalan dengan prinsip ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) yang menempatkan pelestarian lingkungan dan pemberdayaan masyarakat sebagai bagian integral dari strategi bisnis perusahaan, tidak hanya untuk hari ini tetapi juga bagi generasi mendatang.
