Menurut Dato’ Akhmad Elvian, DPMP, seorang sejarawan dan budayawan terkemuka penerima Anugerah Kebudayaan Indonesia, dua anak sungai tersebut bermuara di Sungai Merawang (Baturusa). Lebih dari itu, Kampung Mendara juga berdekatan dengan tambang Cengal (Mines of Tshengal) dan Soonwan (Mines of Soonwan), mengindikasikan signifikansi ekonominya di masa lampau.

Dalam peta kuno “Kaart van het eiland Banka 1819”, posisi Mendara sangat strategis. Ia berada di jalur darat vital yang menghubungkan wilayah Barat dan Tengah Pulau Bangka, membentang dari Muntok hingga Pangkalpinang. Jalur ini melewati Rangam, Beloe, Parit Mestan, Ketapie, Ampang, Jatoan, Bacon (Bakung), Padja Radja Jerorem (Sirem), Mendara, hingga Toutuna (Tuatunu).

Epp (1852:220) juga mencatat pentingnya kampung ini dengan menyebutkan “Kampong Mandara (8 englische Meilen uber Batturussak, an dem Strome, welchen er beherrscht) ” yang menunjukkan dominasi Mendara di wilayah sungai tersebut.
