Terjemahan bebasnya: “Di sinilah beristirahat D.W. Becking, Mayor Infantri Komandan Militer Bangka, dianugerahi Bintang Militer Willems Orde (Bintang Tundjung): Lahir di Woer, pada tanggal 12 Maret 1803, meninggal dunia di Sungaiselan tanggal 25 Februari 1851.”
Kematian Mayor D.W. Becking bukan tanpa jejak. Sebuah surat krusial yang dikirimkan oleh Ajudan Letnan Satu Van Harreveld kepada Jenderal Ekspedisi Komandan Militer Hindia Belanda pada 25 Februari 1851, Nomor La. A/35, menjadi kunci. Laporan Ajudan Letnan Satu Van Harreveld semakin diperjelas dalam Surat Militair Departement No. 2, markas besar Batavia, tertanggal 13 Maret 1851. Surat ini ditujukan kepada Gubernur Jenderal Hindia Belanda dan berisi konfirmasi dari komandan militer Bangka mengenai laporan Van Harreveld.
Pada butir “f” dalam surat tersebut, ditegaskan: “dat de ziekte – toestand der troepen nog niet verbeterde, en koortsen steeds heerschende bleven waaraan ook de Militaire kommandant zelf bij dende was.” Terjemahannya: “bahwa keadaan tentara yang sakit belum membaik, tetap demam, batuk, di mana Komandan Infantri juga menderita sakit.”
Pernyataan ini dari Jenderal Infantri Komandan Pasukan Hindia semakin menguatkan bahwa Mayor D.W. Becking wafat akibat penyakit yang mewabah di kalangan pasukannya saat itu.
