Dato’ Akhmad Elvian, seorang sejarawan terkemuka, kembali menguak fakta sejarah penting mengenai Tungku Peleburan Timah pada masa kekuasaan Inggris di Bangka (1812-1816).

Data ini diperkuat oleh informasi dari Buku Sejarah dan Mata Uang Bangka 1740-1813 karya Puji Harsono (2017, hal. 82) yang menyebutkan keberadaan tungku peleburan timah di Bangka.
Pada periode tersebut, wilayah Jebus dikenal sebagai distrik penghasil timah yang sangat produktif. Berdasarkan “Map of the Island of Banka Compiled from Remarks and Materials Collected during a Journey Through the Island Annexed to a Report on the same and Addressed to the honourable Thomas Stamford Raffles ESQ.RE Lieutenant Governor of the Island of Java and its dependencies by his most obedient servant tho. Horsfield,” terungkap setidaknya ada tiga tambang besar di Jebus. Tambang-tambang tersebut berlokasi di stocade of Seka (Utara Mampang village), Soongie Tangoo (Barat Daya stocade of Klabbet), dan Secam Taynam (Timur Batin Sungaiboolo dan Barat lower furnace).

Sebelum tahun 1870 Masehi, peleburan bijih timah di Pulau Bangka umumnya menggunakan teknologi tungku atau tanur Cina. Orang-orang Cina di Jebus menamai Kampung Puputan Atas dengan sebutan Songliau dan Kampung Puputan Bawah dengan nama Hauliau.
