PANGKALPINANG,PERKARANEWS –PT Timah Tbk terus menunjukkan komitmennya terhadap kelestarian lingkungan dan mitigasi perubahan iklim melalui program penanaman mangrove yang dilaksanakan di wilayah operasional perusahaan.
Program penanaman mangrove yang digalakkan PT Timah merupakan bagian dari program Tanggung Jawab Sosial Lingkungan (TJSL) Perusahaan Bidang Lingkungan sebagai upaya untuk menjaga ekosistem mangrove yang memiliki peran signifikan dalam menyerap emisi karbon, melindungi garis pantai, serta mendukung keanekaragaman hayati.
Konsistensi PT Timah dalam penanaman mangrove ini merupakan bagian integral dari komitmen Perusahaan untuk mendukung keberlanjutan lingkungan dan berperan aktif untuk mendukung agenda global dalam mengatasi dampak perubahan iklim, memberikan dampak positif bagi masyarakat dan lingkungan.
Melalui TJSL dan PPM Bidang Lingkungan, PT Timah pada tahun 2024 berencana untuk menanam 45.000 pohon mangrove yang tersebar di wilayah operasional Perusahaan. Hingga Juli 2024, PT Timah telah menanam sebanyak 32.000 pohon mangrove.
Puluhan ribu mangrove ini ditanam di Provinsi Kepulauan Bangka Belitung dan Provinsi Kepulauan Riau. Dalam melaksanakan penananam mangrove PT Timah berkolaborasi dengan kelompok masyarakat.
Dari kegiatan penanaman mangrove ini diharapkan tidak hanya berdampak pada pemulihan ekosistem mangrove di wilayah pesisir, tapi juga upaya pengembangan mata pencharian komunitas berbasis agro maritim dan ekonomi terpadu untuk masyarakat pesisir.
Selain itu, diharapkan juga dapat meningkatkan ekonomi masyarakat melalui program pembibitan mangrove. Dimana masyarakat diajak terlibat langsung dari pembibitan, penanaman dan perawatan.
Kepala Bidang Komunikasi Perusahaan PT Timah, Anggi Siahaan mengatakan, penanaman mangrove ini juga sejalan dengan komitmen Good Corporate Governance (GCG) yang dijalankan PT Timah untuk memastikan pertumbuhan yang berkelanjutan dengan memperhatikan aspek lingkungan.
“”Sebagai bagian dari tanggung jawab lingkungan, PT Timah berkomitmen untuk melakukan penanaman mangrove secara berkelanjutan di daerah pesisir. Upaya ini tidak hanya akan membantu memitigasi dampak perubahan iklim, tetapi juga memberikan manfaat jangka panjang bagi masyarakat dan ekosistem di sekitar wilayah operasional kami,” ujar Anggi.
Sebagaimana diketahui, mangrove dikenal sebagai salah satu ekosistem yang paling efektif dalam menyerap dan menyimpan karbon. Penanaman mangrove dianggap sebagai langkah strategis dalam upaya mitigasi perubahan iklim yang sedang dihadapi oleh dunia.
“Melalui kolaborasi dengan masyarakat, kami berharap dapat menciptakan kesadaran bersama akan pentingnya mangrove bagi kelestarian lingkungan dan kesejahteraan masyarakat. Selain itu, program ini juga membuka peluang ekonomi baru bagi masyarakat setempat, misalnya melalui pengelolaan ekowisata mangrove yang dapat meningkatkan perekonomian lokal,” tambahnya.
Selain berfungsi sebagai penyerapan karbon, mangrove juga memiliki banyak manfaat ekologis lainnya, seperti melindungi garis pantai dari abrasi, mengurangi risiko banjir, serta menjadi habitat bagi berbagai jenis flora dan fauna.
Dengan menanam dan melestarikan mangrove, PT Timah turut mengambil peran dalam menjaga keseimbangan ekosistem pesisir. Dari sisi ekonomi, hutan mangrove menjadi tempat pemijahan berbagai jenis ikan dan udang, yang menjadi sumber penghidupan bagi nelayan.(Yuko)
