Namun, janji tersebut agaknya tidak mempan meredakan amarah masyarakat. Saat ia mulai menjelaskan soal teknologi tinggi dan standar keselamatan, perwakilan masyarakat Beriga langsung berteriak menolak, mengisyaratkan bahwa janji manis PT Thorcon dianggap hanya basa-basi di hadapan penolakan yang fundamental.
Dalam upayanya meredam penolakan, Dhita Ashari menekankan bahwa proyek PLTN mereka akan mengikuti standar keselamatan tertinggi, tidak hanya standar nasional, tetapi juga standar internasional dari IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency).
“Kita juga bukan hanya mengikuti standar nasional, tapi kita mengikuti standar internasional, yaitu IAEA. Dia sudah ada standar internasionalnya sendiri, apalagi untuk tingkat keselamatan,” tambahnya.
Meski demikian, masyarakat tampaknya lebih khawatir pada risiko tinggi yang melekat pada teknologi nuklir itu sendiri, bukan hanya soal standar yang dijanjikan. Teriakan penolakan tersebut menjadi bukti nyata bahwa sosialisasi dan edukasi yang dimohonkan PT Thorcon ke depan sudah tidak lagi dipercayai oleh masyarakat lokal.
